Small Steps

In August the City of Greater Geraldton held the Designing Our City Forum that was attended by more than 250 members of the community. During the forum, participants were asked to tell us what they valued most about the city, what they would not want to lose and what needed to be changed to reach the vision they had of the region for 2029 and beyond.

During the forum participants developed a list of 'small steps' consisting of projects that the community can start to work on now to make a difference and start the journey towards 2029. Please click here to see all the ideas generated during the forum. Although some of the steps listed can easily be achieved, others will require more time and resources, but that does not mean they are not possible, it will just take longer.

The City examined the Small Steps list and found it is currently working on a number of projects that align with these ideas including the Million Trees Project; installing additional bike stands in key locations; and investigation into developing a youth council. However, the City are not the only organisation in the Greater City region that is actively working on projects in the region. In fact, there is a very good chance that other community based groups, agencies or orgnisations may be undertaking similar projects or perhaps planning ones that also align with the Small Steps. As the 2029 and Beyond Project is now beginning to focus on how the City may be able to assist the community implement its vision for the future, we see these small steps as a good starting point for us to work together. However, in order for us to work together, the City needs your help in indentifying who may be working on similar projects and you can do so by contacting the 2029 and Beyond Coordinator at janellk@cgg.wa.gov.au or phone 9921 0522 to discuss how your project aligns with the Small Steps and if there are any opportunities for us to work together.

If you would like to start a project that is not included in the list of small steps and are seeking support form the City, other organisatins and/or the community please join CivicEvolution and get others involved with you to move your idea into an actionable proposal.

Civic Evolution

CivicEvolution is an online program that collects ideas from the community on how we can create a more sustainable future. It then helps you to find others who like your idea so you can form an idea team. The program then assists your team to develop your idea into a simple proposal. The Governance Alliance Team has promised to review every proposal that comes through CivicEvolution and to decide on an action for them.

Here are the community's ideas that are currently on CivicEvolution. Select an idea to read more about it or to join the team on CivicEvolution!
